Don't Understand

on Saturday, March 29, 2008

A little bit about complaints, I want to say that I.... don't know what I was copying!! Sigh, I don't care what limit it is as x approaches zero, I don't care f(x=c) or whatever it is, COZ I don't understand LAH!! Finally, I'm done with Math assignment, although I haven't fully understand what I was doing. (Next on the list: Silberberg and Campbell for the coming class test next week, though I'm more interested in what movie to watch next...)

Break Within Lectures

on Wednesday, March 26, 2008

It has been some time since my last post. Mainly, or partially perhaps, it's because of say, laziness? Haha... The holiday that I had been longing for, Easter Holidays is over. And yeah, I experienced another type of Easter in Australia. Back in Malaysia, Easter is no big deal; school is still on, shops are open and everything is just as normal as it used to be. (I'm not a Christian.) Obviously, what pleased me the most is that I have four day holidays during Easter, which means that I can spend more time gaining weight, attempting to lose weight and oh yeah, online.

I'm aware that most of my coursemates are currently busy with Math Assignment which dues on next Tuesday. I would be happy to contribute some ideas but I'm sorry as I don't really understand the question. Yep, and I don't think there will be anyone free enough to explain it to me, not until they find the solution. Haha...

In a blink of eyes, I'm in week 3 now. Again, time flies, right? I'm sure you would agree. Haha, I want to go back to the time when I'm still in Malaysia so that I can learn a few new dishes before coming to Australia. (So that I don't need to eat maggi/ pasta + tomato/ curry powder/ tomyam so frequently) As if I can? But come to think of it, even if I can, I rather choose not to go back. Why? Because I have been here for more than one month and I would never want to start again! ^^

I'm now looking forward to the next holiday in April. Haha... Is that a mid-sem break or what? Ahh, I have no idea but as long as there is a holiday, it will be good enough. Oops, I sounded like a spoilt brat. I'm NOT!!! Who doesn't like holidays anyway? You do, so do I. Even a hardworking bookworm likes holidays!

Highly recommended:

I watched it during my Chemistry lecture today. I think it's silly. Anyway, it will give you a good laugh. Haha...

I'm cold...
I'm Cold...
I'm COld...
I'm COLD...

This Morning...

It's 10.48am now, 2 hours and 48 minutes after I woke up on a Saturday morning. Wrapping myself in the only pink sweater that I have, having Campbell placed on the table like it used to be, my fingers are busy jumping on the keyboard while my eyes are concentrating on the computer screen. (Please note that this is to show how laid back I have been for the whole morning.) I think I know that this isn't the right thing I should be doing now. Perhaps I should take a look at the Math assignment, perhaps I should read Pharmacy News, perhaps I should concentrate on Silberberg or Campbell, infinite perhaps... Low productivity, argh!

Mengapa??

Haha... No why.

I have nothing to say but I just feel like writing something here. Will update later if there's anything interesting but I guess it will just be another cheap stuffs hunt at Central Market and Woolworths for the rest of the day. Cheers! Hopefully I will be able to study later. My eyes are tired, for no reason. Haha...

Now let's continue, I just came back from Siew Mei's birthday + housewarming party and a shopping spree. Cool, they cooked tom yam!!! Haha... Oh yeah, there are clothes as cheap as AUD5.00 per piece!!

Still no mood for books, sigh!

Botanic Garden

on Friday, March 21, 2008

This is the second time I visited Botanic Garden, with the same group of people + Michelle and Jeremy. (PS: I went to Botanic Garden with Yi Hong, Jien and Hooi Lie last week) A quick flash back - Last Saturday I went to Botanic Garden for a lunch gathering organised by Ru Shi Buddhist Group and I still remember vividly that we agreed to go back to Botanic Garden in the near future to take photos when the weather becomes more moderate. ^^

On Good Friday, which is so grand in Australia such that all shops except a few are closed, we visited Botanic Garden. Haha... In fact, most shops are closed and the streets are very quiet on public holidays. (Contrastly, all shops are opened and the streets are busy with people and cars during public holidays in Malaysia.) +.+ I miss Penang... The food, the people, the weather and everything. Oops, I sounded melancholic again.

Initially, our plan was to jog in the garden. BUT... Okay, let's make it this way. We jogged for like half an hour and spent the rest of the time posing and taking photos. ^^ Too bad right? We were supposed to burn away the extra calories consumed over the week!! Anyway, we walked. Is walking considered as a mean of exercise? Haha...

The weather is getting colder and coooolder nowadays. It was only 12 C this morning. Sigh, the weather changes so fast and my skin is suffering again... X.X

End of story, time to study, add oil add oil!!! =)

Recipe To Laughter

ROUN-DA-MALL

on Tuesday, March 18, 2008

For those who don't know, Rundle Mall is a must-pass street on my way to uni. Does that mean that I window shop a lot? Haha... Anyway, there are a few exotic experiences I would like to share here.

A few days ago, I saw a "superman" performing somewhere near The Body Shop. I had no idea what he was doing but I somehow captured a few photos of him. Haha... I think he was funny, and brave at the same time as I will never wear such costume and perform in the public!! I didn't stop long for his show because I was rushing for "bread hunt" at 3.00pm. ^^

Next, today I saw an old man holding a big big rose singing beside one bench. Duh, what the hell is going on? I don't understand either.

The conclusions that I can draw out from my previous experiences are:
1. Rundle Mall is a busy street, ie. it's full of people all the time, from morning until night.
2. The people here are weird, as they come out with funny little things and do some extraordinary stuffs.

Some recent updates:
Te Ying is...
1. busy with her BIOL practical report lately.
2. feel sleepy all the times, especially during lectures.
3. thinking that she should start studying BIOL as soon as possible or she will be far left behind.

I-Can-Do-Nothing

on Sunday, March 16, 2008

Okay, I couldn't stand this. I want to do something. Something, not about books, not about lectures or tutorials but BIOL practical report!! Hah, you must be wondering why. It's easy, coz everyone else is doing except me, Zhi Hui and Chuen Lu perhaps. +.+ Forget about it. Not that we don't want to, in fact we can't.

Swing Of Mood

on Saturday, March 15, 2008

14th March 2008
Morning
As a result of sleeping late the day before, I can hardly concentrate during the one hour lecture in the morning. Half conscious and half asleep I was, I somehow made it through the whole lecture. I was feeling rather down for no reason. Also, I was told that our A Levels results were released too. Immediately, a few possibilities were pictured in my mind. First, picture of me jumping in joy. Second, picture of me feeling disappointed and third, picture of me packing things preparing to go back to Malaysia. For the rest of the morning, I sat on the sofa holding my mobile phone struggling hard, thinking whether I should or shouldn't call JPA. In the end, I decided not to call though.

Afternoon
I was late for the BBQ at Reid lawn. It was a hot hot afternoon and as I can remember, I didn't feel any better compared to morning. I know I'm emotional at times. ^^ Anyway, I was glad to find out that they served the nice vegetarian patty that I like again! While I was eating, a few people started to call JPA and guess what? ALL of them got 15 points!!! Adrenaline level started to run high in my body and I can feel my heart beating faster than usual... Finally, I asked...

"Ada lagi tak?" (We were using Jien's phone asking one by one.)
"Ada, Ada... Wong Te Ying."
"Wong?"
"Ya ya, W-O-N-G Te Ying."
"Okay... Wong Te Ying ya?"
"Betul tu!"
"Semua A, lima belas markah!!"
Thanks God.

It was the moment I was waiting for since one and a half year ago. Of joyfulness, of appreciation and of satisfaction, I once again relish the feeling of scoring all As. No more pain, no more tears, no more disappointment, the sole feeling that I had was appreciation.

Evening
Bliss, it was the word to describe me. Haha... However, I met a weird old lao ah pek on my way back from Victoria Square to Rundle Mall which spoilt my mood a little while. Anyway, I had a quick recovery. =) He followed me at the tram station and kept staring at me as if there was something wrong with me. @@ After making sure that there was indeed nothing wrong with me, I concluded that he was crazy. Quite scary though, luckily I wasn't alone at that time. Thanks Jien.

Night
Our initial plan was to spend the rest of the evening at the beach but the plan changed out of the blue. Instead of bathing ourselves tanned at the beach, some of them decided to have a self pub crawl, namely Australian's happy hours. @@ As it wasn't my cup of tea, I decided not to follow. I was trying to get Yi Hong and Jien to accompany me to have some fun in the city but er, I forgot how but somehow we ended up with more people following us. Our first destination was Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts, which is an biannual event in Adelaide. There were music, dance, film, theatre and etc but we didn't watch any as entrance fees were applicable! We are a group of frugal poor students =P For more details about Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts, you can visit <http://www.adelaidefestival.com.au/>.

Then, we proceeded to North Terrace for Northern Lights.
"Celebrating one of the most beautiful cultural boulevards in the world for the duration of the Festival, the city’s historic architectural icons will be painted with light and coloured with life.
The State Library of South Australia, The South Australian Museum, The Art Gallery of South Australia on North Terrace are the sandstone cornerstones of our culture, illuminating and enlightening each generation. For two weeks, they themselves will take the spotlight every night of the Festival from dusk till 2am, the artists from the internationally acclaimed The Electric Canvas will transform their facades.
Through a constantly changing array of perfect, jaw-dropping architectual projection, reflecting the heritage and function of these beautiful buildings, Colonel Light’s 19thcentury vision will become a 21st-century vision in light."

Quoted from Northern Lights, The Electric Canvas, Australia, viewed 15 March 2008, <http://www.adelaidefestival.com.au/Show/Detail.aspx?p=5&id=11&c=7>.

Our next and last destination for the day was Adelaide Fringe 2008, which was ran side by side with Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts 2008. Try to picture Pesta in Malaysia and you will get a rough idea how it was like, except for there were a few dancing platforms in Adelaide. Their happy hours what... The only show that we watched was The Mutant Barnyard, featuring weird things from around the world. Two heads animals, three legged human and so on... But I didn't feel good seeing all these things. ^^

That's all for our celebrations after receiving the results! Hehe...

Be Myself

on Friday, March 14, 2008

I need to buckle up. For there are so much to do, yet so little time I have. There's a need to put a halt to online, daydreaming and wasting time. I used to like weekends, but not when you have an assignment without a clear stand , not when Campbell is solidly being placed on your table, and not when tutorials are being posted on the course information homepage.

I wonder when,
can I indulge myself in mesmerizing music?
can I walk down Rundle Mall Street wihout any rush?
can I stop by and enjoy the scenery beside me?
can I attend a lecture without feeling sleepy?
can I be MYSELF?

I don't want to feel guilty when I see my housemates studying while I am listening to music.
I want to move on at my own pace but not blindly following the others.
I want to believe in myself.
I don't want to study a book because someone else studies.
I want to do something because I enjoy it.

I want to know,

are these going to work well for me like it used to be?
am I the odd ones out?

It doesn't matter though, we are who we are. No two individuals are the same on this earth. Different people have different perceptions. I'm the slow one, but it does not mean that I'm ignorant. I'm learning hard to cope with, to stand up and to survive in this mean world. Nothing happends though, no worries mate. It's just another random thought of mine. I'm eccentric.

Nervous I'm, I desperately want to know my A Levels result!! Does it really matter how many points I get? What will I think if it doesn't turn out to be good one for me? How will it be?

Random

on Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Wahaha... I like this photo!
I don't like Thursday. Thursday means 2 hours of COMM tutorial, 3 hours of practical and lunch box. =( As the name suggested, COMM requires you to communicate. For a person holding on to I-don't-speak-unless-it's-necessary, it's certainly TORTUROUS!!
I'm sick of bread and the same old recipe of pasta + tomato. I tried scrambled egg yesterday but it wasn't really successful. Haha... The idea came into my mind so randomly when I suddenly remembered the recipe Cat told me. ^.^ Although it didn't taste good, it filled my stomach. I want to eat tom yam noodles!!! @@ So random again...
The urge to EAT is striking me. Chocolates, biscuits and many more... I just couldn't resist them. I think I'm getting fat. What should I do?? By the way, I don't have bulimia. ~XoXoXo~

Lost And Found

on Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Joyce rushed to the computer lab after her Math tutorial today. Catherine messaged her today saying that Edexcel results was released today but she couldn't find anything on the net. After sheer excitement, she decided to print COMM lecture notes which she saved in her pendrive the day before. In fact, she likes to print at the computer lab, haha... (For reason not worth mentioning.)

The climax was, she forgot to eject her pendrive and left the computer lab to attend Math lecture. (You must be thinking: WHAT?! Like that also can forget?) It was not the first time she forgot her pendrive anyway. She did that a couple of times in INTEC and finally ended up losing her pendrive. That was weird, she didn't even know where did she put it, nor did she remember how she lose it. Pity her ex-pendrive, she hopes that she didn't store anything offensive inside.

Okay, continue with her story. During lecture break, Zhi Hui took her pencil box and she somehow saw the little cap of her pendrive inside. OH MY GOD!!! That reminded her of the pendrive she left unattended at the computer lab!!! Her next question was, where is the computer lab? Think think think, she was at Centenary Building and computer lab is at Playford, if she was not mistaken. (She just knew it today, don't laugh...) She can hardly remember the ways, and the names. They just drive her crazy. Ahh, she knows she is useless, especially when it comes to names, places and directions. She desperately wants to know what she is good in anyway.

So... She went back to the computer lab and found the computer she used. There was a girl sitting on the table. Fervently, she hoped that her pendrive was still there but alas, she didn't see anything attached to the CPU. Not again please... When she approached the girl, she saw something green on the table. Hahaha, it was her pendrive!!! Thanks a lot to the girl who kept the pendrive in safe for her. Next time, she must be more mindful and careful!

水结晶

on Monday, March 10, 2008

No Worries!

on Sunday, March 9, 2008

Being lazed for one whole week is seriously ENOUGH for me. Unbeatable temptation from my laptop and the dim, yellow light in the living room have had enough effect on me. One page only, and my attention will be drawn to something else. Be it the sound from msn indicating who has sign in or chit-chats, there is surely something to distract me. But of course, the person to be blamed in the end is still me. If I concentrate more, if I am more determined, and a thousand more IFs, I will be able to finish studying chem.

Perhaps it's post-holiday blue. I don't have much energy and mood to study, and I have no idea how am I going to complete my dear assignment. Do you know why? Because Australians like to say "no worries". According to a renown person from Malaysia whom we met yesterday (sorry for not remembering his name), no worries is so widely used in Australia such that you really don't need to worry about anything. Just one word, no worries and everything will be fine. So next time if you have any problem, smile to yourself and say no worries. Haha...

Yesterday was... kind of busy as I attented "Welcome new Malaysian Students to Adelaide" jointly organised by MASCA and the other Malaysian societies in the morning and went to a temple at night. When I was about to write a post, my internet connection became NOT cooperative. When I was so excited about the results of general election I CANNOT ONLINE!!! And goodness, it happened out of sudden. My final resort was --- SLEEP. But honestly, I couldn't sleep well as I was still thinking of Penang. Haha... Anyhow, I think I slept after a while.

This morning I went to a park. The park is... HUGE, many times bigger than the one I used to jog at back in Shah Alam. And of course, it's bigger than the one opposite my house too. The surrounding is serene and there are a lot of birds flying around. (Sorry again as I don't know the names of the birds ^^) Stretches of greenery really soothed my eyes, and I'm sure they will do the same to you. What really cheered me up was the people. I NEVER expect a stranger to stop by and say "Good morning!" to me. And it was not only one, a few greeted me. Good day mate! ^^

Tomorrow is Adelaide Cup which means that it's a HOLIDAY!!! Hooray!!!

All About Food

on Friday, March 7, 2008

Lately, I think I am addicted to peanut butter spread. It can be my breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and even supper! (Not all on the same day though.) Other than that, my lunch mostly consists of egg sandwiches. Oh yeah, egg is becoming my staple food nowadays, fried egg especially. =P And my typical lunch in uni is fried egg, some veggie and tomato sauce between two pieces of bread. Sometimes there may be nuggets or fillets, which I now considered as hmm... delicacy. Haha...

There is actually one popular meal among us in Adelaide, and it's an easy one --- Fried Maggi + tomato sauce. Ahh, I know it's not good to eat maggi, and so I gradually substituted maggi with pasta. Haha... (Though I still like Maggi.) Before I forget, I can finally fry an egg without breaking the yolk! (Don't laugh, I'm learning to cook on my own.) Kind of regretted for not learning how to cook, sigh! Honestly, I hate cooking previously but it seems that now I can accept the fact that I need to cook, somehow. Haha... But I like to clean up, coz I feel happy when I see everything's clean. =P

One good news for myself, I decided to make sure that I eat vegetables in at least one of my meals in a day. Whether it's for health, beauty or whatever, I think it's a good decision. LoL... I miss breads.... The breads here are all either hard + cold or expensive. I miss fresh-oven-baked-hot breads!!! And I miss Milo, I miss Secret's cakes, I miss nasi lemak, I want to eat roti canai... And the list goes on. =P

Pharmacy?

on Thursday, March 6, 2008

Intuition is sometimes correct. When you think you don't like a subject, it seriously WON'T turn out to be a good one.

Complications did occur and I ended up choosing an unsuitable title for my 1000 words assignment. And yeah, I'm the one choosing the topic so no more complaints okay. To literally describe my situation now is: 飞蛾扑火,自取灭亡。

So many topics yet I was so uncompetitive. Maybe it's time for me to learn, time to go into detail and fully understand the perspective of my future career. Should pharmacists have limited prescribing rights? Up till now, I can't even decide whether it should be a yes or a no.

And that is ME. I thought of sleeping after reading a few pages of Pharmacy News. I don't know the exact rights pharmacists have in Australia. I have little, less than what I am suppose to know, too little that it seems to be poor, knowledge in the field of pharmacy. I don't know anything about pharmacists in Australia. I reached Australia two weeks ago and what do you expect me to know? I think I visited a pharmacy store ONCE a few days ago. And nonetheless, the store looked exactly the same as those in Malaysia. No difference.

To start from the beginning I understand, is hard. I have no choice but to keep moving on. By the end of the day, I'm going to SURVIVE!

Chem Lab

Chemistry practical was indeed FUN!!! First of all, there are a wide range of "fashionable" white boots up for grab at any time if you need one and there are a few lab coats to borrow if you forget to bring yours. Unlike Biological Science practical, it doesn't sound like a punishment, which is so much consolable. ^^

Before we started our first practical, a short movie clip was played in the lab. Personally, I think that the video clip was kinda funny. Haha... The contents of the clip was about safety measure while handling chemicals and working in the laboratory. I wonder how they did it but they somehow recorded a series of disastrous outcomes due to improper handling of chemicals. I assure you, you will feel like laughing if you watch the clip but too bad, nobody was laughing in the lab so... I don't want to be the odd one. =P

I missed one post yesterday as I was busy catching up with homeworks and academic related stuffs. (Which sounded so fishy coz only a small portion of my time was spent on homework.)

XoXoXoXoXoXo

Oh yeah, something happened yesterday. I was trying to activate my Visa Debit card but failed after three attempts and my card was retained by the ATM machine. @@ Luckily, I got my card back easily from the teller but I felt so stupid. It was so unbelievable (badly)! Although I admit that I'm not good at remembering things, at least not to the extent of forgetting my own pin number!!! In conclusion, I don't like that bank. They registered my name wrongly and issued a card with a wrong name on it. Not only that, they didn't provide me with sufficient information about their services and so on, which makes me sounded like a fool when I actually need to ask them for my account details. Ahh, I know I'm complaining again. ~End of story~

Library

on Tuesday, March 4, 2008

I registered for Adelaide City Council Library and Community Centres at North Terrace today!! There is no membership fees yet I can borrow up to 30 items including videos, CDs, DVDs, language kits and audio books. Besides that, there is a daily allowance of two hours internet usage too!

Although I haven't try out the self check out computer, according to my friends, it's fascinating! Firstly, you have to insert your card into the computer. After the computer assesses your information, what you need to do is just putting the books that you want to borrow at the scanning area. The computer will automatically detect the books and then everything will practically appear on the display. Oh yeah, you can actually put the stack of books onto it and no worries, they will be detected. Amazing right? The procedures are so fast and easy, unlike the conventional methods where we need to queue up waiting for bar codes to be scanned. I'm gonna try it out TOMORROW, if possible. Haha...

It's Tuesday and my COMM tutorial is on Thursday. I'm still undecided on which topic to choose for my assignment and oh God, I'm sooo... Sigh, out of words to describe myself. I wonder when will I learn to make my own decisions and be MORE alert!!! Arghhh, time to make up my mind and craps, I need to produce a one thousand words essay!! Ahem ahem, no more plagiarism this time. =( Sometimes, I do miss Malaysia's education system.

Uni Life

on Monday, March 3, 2008

Today was EXTREMELY hot, so hot that I decided not to check the temperature. =P Yet, I need to walk a long way to the uni at 10.45am, when the sun was taking his sweet time attacking the pedestrians. Typical Australian's weather, hot and dry. Sigh! My skin is intolerably DRY, even lotion does not help much.

Oh yeah, I had my first day in uni. It was not as interesting as I had expected though. One significant difference between INTEC and UniSA is that they encourage students to be inquisitive. Besides the usual three-hours-practical every week, students can read for pleasure in the laboratory and of course, look at the specimens available if you are interested. There is one funny rule in the lab, ie students who forget to bring lab coat are not allowed into the lab unless they wear the one provided with "I forget to bring my lab coat" printed on it. Before I forget, the lab coat can only be used for once. ^^ On the other hand, those who are not wearing proper shoes will need to borrow an extra-size white boots and the same applies, they can only be used for once.

The other class I had today was Biological Science lecture. I'm sorry but I was kind of er... sleepy during the lecture although I tried to keep my eyes opened. Haha...

I visited unilife roadshow today and joined Malaysian Students Association and Buddhist Club. I am hoping to get involve in their activities so that my life in Adelaide wouldn't be so boring. Most importantly, I want to be a better person. ^^

Trip To Victor Harbor

on Sunday, March 2, 2008

Although I missed UniSA's trip last week, I was able to grab the last few places to Victor Harbor today, which explains why I did not complain that I'm bored. Hehe... (I personally prefer to use harbour instead of harbor but since I'm in Australia now, it's better to adapt to their spelling as well.^^)

We assembled in front of Yugondi building and departed from City West Campus at about 10.00am. Haha, Australians are punctual. I think we left earlier than the planned time. There was one significant thing about the bus, guess what? The number plate of that bus is actually my birthdate, though I didn't realise it until about 3.30pm.@@

On the way to Victor Harbor, the bus driver briefly explained some landmarks along the way. We passed by some hilly areas but I couldn't really remember their names. But one thing for sure, there is this Mount Baker. The scenery along the way was picturesque!! There were cattle grazing freely on the greenish grassland and beautiful vineyards welcoming us. Hehe... For more information, kindly take a look at my photo album in facebook, some are just undescribable. =P

Before reaching Victor Harbor, we had a brief stopover at McLaren Vale. I did not taste any wine but instead, we spent our time capturing photos!! Hehe...

After about one and a half hour, we continued our journey to Victor Harbor through the regional towns of Willunga and Mount Compass. I was so excited when I saw BEACH!!! Haha... I wanted to visit beaches since a long long time ago, hehe. At first sight, I thought it was going to be a hot day at Victor Harbor and decided to take off my sweater. Unexpectedly, the wind was very strong and cold!!! Cool right, glaring sun + cold wind. =P

We found a less windy place and had our lunch. Pity me, there were neither fish nor chips for me as I brought my own lunchbox, consisting of er... doughnuts. Haha... After lunch, we walked around the town area and I bought myself a hand made dark chocolate!! It was great as I had been thinking of buying one since I reached Australia one week ago. Need not to mention, I love chocolates, especially hand made ones!!

The main attraction at Victor Harbor was the horse drawn tram, basically a tram driven by horse. We didn't take the ride but instead, we walked across to Granite Island. It was a long 30 minutes walk and one of the longest in my life! (Big thanks to the strong wind again.) After much struggle, we reached Granite Island and continued to explore the island by taking the 2.9km Kaiki Trail. There was nothing much on the island except for the scenic view. Photo snapping sessions are on again. =) Besides that, there were actually explanation on how the island was formed and the origin and history of the place. I think the scenery is the one you will never want to miss in South Australia as they are seriously awesome!! Oh yeah, you can actually catch a glimpse of penguins at night if you are lucky enough!

I understand that my post is a brief one as there are too much to write and too much to tell!! Sorry if I left out anything. There is an alternative for you, photos!! Hehe, I have got hundreds over photos taken at Victor Harbor so do spend some time to look at them if you are interested!
